Simple ways to stay cold free this winter




All of us catch a cold from time to time but most of us do during the winter season. It is the most common infection in the world. It certainly doesnt mean the end of the world but does delay us from our daily schedule. So before you curse yourself for not being careful enough or curse the person who gave it to you, here are simple ways to stay cold free this winter.

1) Everytime you shake someone's hand wash yours. We understand its rude not to greet someone approaching you so wash your hands and wash again. Running lots of water over your hands will dilute any germs and send them down the drain.

2) Drink plenty and by that we mean water! Doctors recommend we drink about eight glasses of water a day to stay healthy. Water helps the kidneys function properly and flushes out the toxins that accumulate in our bodies.

3) Keep your hands away from your face. Your eyes and nose are the most likely places for germs to get in. Not touching your face greatly cuts your odds of getting sick.

4) Get your sleep and balanced diet. When your body is tired and weak it isnt fighting that hard. When we get enough sleep our bodies and our minds are healthier and happier, and our immune systems fuctions most effectively.

5) Exercise increases the count of natural killer cells in our body due to proper circulation of blood. They help fighing off foreign invaders such as viruses and bacteria in our body, yay!

6) Disinfecting your surrounding increases the chances of you not falling sick. Things you should be concerned about cleaning are your cell phones, laptops, door knobs and remotes. They are most likley to be touched by someone who already has a cold.

FACT: Cold is a virus which cannot be treated by anti biotics. Anti biotics work against bacteria. Now you know!

(vi)Hot beverages with honey helps in soothing throat pain and gargle with warm salt water.

(vii)If the symptoms get serious for example fever over 100F stays for more than a day, profouse sweating and shaking, continuous sneezing, coughing mucus which is green, severe headche, abdomain pain or painful urination then it might be more serious than a common cold and you are advised to consult a doctor immediately
